About us
The club is proud of its independent nature and relies upon the practical contribution of all members for maintenance and ongoing improvement of facilities.
The area is officially known as “Limeburners Bay”and is in the estuary of Hovells Creek. It is called simply “The Lagoon” by locals. It has been used as a safe small boat anchorage since the 1920’s.
With help from people like Sir Roy Fidge (Geelong Harbour Trust) the club became a formal organisation in 1965 after some years of informal activity. We share the area with Corio Bay Sailing Club and the Geelong Grammar School Sailing Club.
Our membership is limited to 100 boat owning members and we cater for boats up to 35” and 10 tonnes. We have, through our own efforts, constructed our clubroom, jetty, slipway, kitchen and workshop without calling on public funds. These are maintained through the use of our own funds and the personal efforts of the individual members. Our membership is usually full and waiting lists are frequent. We also have Associate and Family Memberships. We promote our self-help nature with new members and insist that they must have some input to club maintenance and environmental cleaning. We have up to 90% attendance at working bees. Over the years we have planted over 300 trees and shrubs to assist Greening Australia with their local efforts.
We have a very busy calendar, with yacht racing weekly over the summer season and fortnightly over the winter season. The calendar also includes long distance races and twilight events over the summer period. Club cruises of a social nature are regularly scheduled within Port Phillip Bay.
We are a small, active, friendly club with one thing in common.....the love of the water.
